Denise Hunter - The Botanic Gardens Book
With encouragement for her project from curator, staff and Friends of Christchurch Botanic Gardens, Hunter has devoted the past year to photographing, painting, researching and coordinating elements for her book.
Hunter invites readers to visit the gardens from an artist's as well as a park lover's perspective.
Alongside more than 220 vivid photographs profiling some of the most significant plantings Hunter has painted 25 watercolours highlighting key botanical features and three portraits of identities linked to the gardens: Queen Victoria, Kate Sheppard and his holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso.
Memories and quotes from the garden visitors are scattered throughout the book and Hunter invited four local writers; Angela Bennett, Jacqui Wood, Cynthia Kepple and Karin O'Donnell to help tell the story of this long-treasured landscape.
Designed, published and printed by leading Christchurch publisher The Caxton Press.
